Brake drum brakes are working on the basis of friction between the brake shoe and drum that rotates with the wheels of vehicles. In order for friction to slow the vehicle properly, the brake shoes are made of a material having a high coefficient of friction.

Brake drums have a weakness when submerged in water, it can not function properly because the coefficient of friction is reduced significantly / significantly. It is therefore becoming obsolete in the automotive world and replace it with disc brakes.
